Aurelio Pego (Valladolid 1899-La Coruña 1973) migrated to New York in 1919. He began his journalistic career by volunteering as a correspondent for Spanish-language newspapers.
The Antifascist Chronicles recovers, analyzes and makes available Aurelio Pego's antifascist satire published in U.S. Spanish-language periodicals. Pego articulated a sharp, humorous attack on Spanish fascism, particularly incisive in countering fascist myth-making. His satiric worldview was grounded in an attack on the imperial representation of the Caudillo, National Catholicism, and fascist exercise of power and political repression. More spirited chronicles lampooned antifascists for their inaction.

With the help of undergraduate and graduate students, Montse Feu collected, transcribed, edited, translated, and compiled Pego's chronicles published from 1940 to the 1970s.
